Finding Pets For Your Kids

About a year ago, I realized that my kids had never looked after pets. I wanted them to be able to really enjoy their life to the fullest, so I started looking for more opportunities for them to reach out to animals. It was amazing to see how much of a difference a pet or two made in their lives, and pretty soon, they seemed happier and more interested in the world around them. This blog is all about finding great pets for your kids and making sure that they stay healthy and happy. Check out this blog for more information.

5 Tips For Grooming Your New Goldendoodle

Are you planning to adopt a Goldendoodle dog in the near future? This breed of dog is a blend of Poodle and Golden Retriever and has a fluffy and adorable coat. You'll definitely want to know some tips on how to properly groom your Goldendoodle to make sure that its beautiful coat is cared for.

Brushing

You'll want to regularly brush your Goldendoodle's fur to prevent it from becoming tangled and matting. This can be done by using a stainless steel comb and slicker brush to help remove those loose hairs on their body and prevent knots from forming. You should always start at the coat's base and then work upward, all while focusing on areas that tend to become tangled. This includes under the legs and behind their ears. Try to brush your Goldendoodle a couple of times each week to keep their coat looking great.

Bathing

Your Goldendoodle should be bathed regularly to make sure they are free of any odd odors. It's best to use a shampoo that is specific for dogs, which will be gentle on their coat and skin. These dog shampoos are mild and will not strip away the natural oils in the Goldendoodle's fur. Just make sure that you thoroughly rinse the shampoo out of their fur, since it can cause their skin to become irritated.

Trimming

A Goldendoodle's hair is going to continuously grow, which is why trimming their fur is essential so that it is the proper length. Some people prefer a shorter cut for their Goldendoodle, while others like a longer cut. It's really a personal preference based on what you think looks best and how long you want to go between trimmings. Consider taking your Goldendoodle to a professional groomer to get this job done.

Ear Cleaning

Goldendoodles have floppy ears that can become dirty and infected if they are not cared for. It's important to check their ears for odd odors, swelling, and redness. In order to clean their ears, dip a cotton ball into a container of mild soap and warm water, and clean the outer portion of the ear. Do not clean further into their ears, since it can cause damage to the ear canal.

Nail Trimming

Trimming your Goldendoodle's nails will help their nails stay healthy. However, a dog's nails are a bit different from human nails. It is possible to trim too much and cause the nails to bleed, which is due to the nerve inside the nail. Make sure you look for that nerve and stay away from it when trimming.
